Read about Revision's adventure from Marinette to Cedar River State Harbor of Refuge (never made it to Escanaba) in Sailing Breezes.
Images here are are of Cedar River. We pick up a green buoy 1 mile out and split the difference between the red cans and green nuns at the river's entrance. The drawing showing the channel and buoys was done by a commercial captain.
A postscript: While in the marina last summer we got the lowdown on a notorious grounding. Seems the sailboat was being chartered by people who, I don't know, forgot they had a keel beneath them? Had they consulted a chart they would have seen the water depths are clearly marked and that they were in water that was thinner than their draft.
