Cheery Things

OPENING DAY

The Brewers host the Rockies so I'm wearing my home game jersey. Yo Gallardo is pitching and last year we saw him back in fine form after recovering from from his 2008 collision with first baseman Prince Fielder.

Ouch.

Brewers

Since last season ended I've been skipping the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Brewers Blog and its sportswriters' and comment-leavers' thoughts about players and management. And when running into Brewers fans who want to talk baseball, most begin with, "What do we do with Suppan!?" with a crazed look in their eyes, I pretty much just shrug my shoulders.

This is my new approach to the season; an attempt to not get weighted down in minutia, but rather just watch the games play out. This season will be one of living in the moment.

What a relief.

There is no television aboard Revision so once aboard the games are brought to us by Bob Uecker and Cory Provus on the Brewers Radio Network. Bob and Cory are solid announcers—entertaining without yelling and knowledgeable without lecturing. (The same can be said for FSN television broadcasters Brian Anderson and retired catcher Bill Schroeder.)

It's a small midwest market approach that makes tuning in easy.

And while tuning in to the radio I get other stuff done, like working a crossword grid or retightening the rope around the trolls.

TROLLS

It's a shame that the internets has made trolls a bad thing.

Trolls of folklore are known to be mischievous but in an impish way and these two—the blonde in a wedding dress, the magenta in a tux—were a wedding gift from niece Katherine way back in 1992. They've hung around and I thought it would be nice to have them sail with us so I brought them aboard and ended up tying them to the mast step.

husband & wife

Hmm. Not sure what a psychologist would infer from that but the trolls just keep smiling, as do we.

And now, in our 5th year on Revision, the trolls have become such an important part of the crew I can't imagine sailing without them.

Aw. Look at 'em. They're ready for another sailing season.

For sure.

SAUSAGES

This email just in from the Russ Feingold for Senate campaign asking for picks on the winning sausage:

Text A to 91990 for Bratwurst
Text B to 91990 for Polish Sausage
Text C to 91990 for Italian Sausage
Text D to 91990 for Hot Dog
Text E to 91990 for Chorizo

Yes indeed, it's Opening Day at Miller Park and, while I don't text, I will go with Chorizosgb flavicon 2
